Although there are numerous prescription remedies for hair growth, they often contain potentially harmful chemicals and generally come with a high price tag. There are some natural remedies that can help to aid in the hair growth process. However, these natural remedies have not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration, so consult your doctor before beginning any self-treatment.

Flaxseed Oil and Vitamin C Powder

According to Sharon D. Chappelle, author of “Nappy Journey: The Twisted Road to Natural Hair,” a mixture of flaxseed oil and vitamin C tablets or powder can be used to help aid in hair growth. To make this mixture, crush 1 vitamin C tablet in a mortar and pestle and mix it with 3 tbsp. of flaxseed oil. Gently massage the mixture onto your scalp after washing with a gentle shampoo and conditioner and leave it on for 10 minutes before rinsing it off with lukewarm water. Let your hair dry naturally without using heat to dry your hair. This treatment can be used daily as long as it doesn’t bother your skin. Unused portions should be stored in the refrigerator for no more than 5 days.
